COMMUNITY ALERT – THEFT OF NUMBER PLATES

We have received reports of number plates being stolen from vehicles in the local area.

Stolen registration plates are often used by criminals to help conceal the identity of vehicles involved in offences such as fuel theft, vehicle crime, speeding offences, and other criminal activity.

Crime Prevention Advice

To help protect your vehicle from number plate theft, please consider the following:

Fit anti-tamper or security screws to your registration plates.

Park in a well-lit area or secure garage whenever possible.

Where available, park in areas covered by CCTV.

Regularly check that your number plates are securely attached.

Consider marking the rear of your number plates with your postcode and house number to make them less attractive to thieves.

Remain vigilant and report anyone seen acting suspiciously around parked vehicles.

If you discover your number plates have been stolen:

Report the theft to the police via 101 or online.

Contact the DVLA if required.

Inform your vehicle insurer and be alert to any notices or fines relating to offences you did not commit.

If you have witnessed any suspicious activity, or have CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage that may assist enquiries, please report it to West Yorkshire Police.
